WILMINGTON — The city’s riverfront is set for more housing, as the Collier Companies closed on 10.23 acres last month to move forward another housing community along River Road.

Based in Gainesville, Florida, the company is a 50-year-old family-owned business, with a portfolio of over 13,000 apartment-style homes in Florida and Georgia. However, it’s making its debut in North Carolina after closing on its $6.2-million purchase of 4105 Sandalwood Way, 3855 Watercraft Ferry Avenue and 3820 Watercraft Ferry Avenue.

Planned just south of Riverlights, site plans shouw the community will include 292 units in six buildings, outfitted with one-, two- and three‑bedrooms. There also will be a resort‑style pool, bocce and pickleball courts, a fitness center, and a pet spa.

Construction is expected to begin in early 2027, with the first units ready for move-in in early 2028. Wilmington’s McKim & Creed is listed as the project engineer, with architecture from Dynamik Design and landscaping by Mihaly Land Design.

“This project represents our continued commitment to creating exceptional living experiences in vibrant, growing markets,” Michael Rosenblatt, president of operations, said in a release. “Wilmington’s unique charm and riverfront setting make this an ideal location for our next community.”

The new multi-family community adds to a growing slate of riverfront housing options as Wilmington’s River Road corridor continues to see large residential and mixed-use development. This includes the Riverlights master-planned community, which is slated to have about 3,000 homes at full build-out and is already home to more than 1,200 residents.
