The Agenda: Meetings in local government this week

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government and community meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, it will be included, too.

Monday, July 7

Pender County Board of County Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m., 805 South Walker Street, Burgaw. An agenda was not posted by press. The meeting will livestream here.

The Southport Board of Aldermen will meet at 9 a.m. at 223 E Bay Street. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Southport Specialty License Plate
  • Lowe White Bridge Project
  • Old City Hall/Courthouse Architecture Firm Selection

Tuesday, July 8

The New Hanover County Board of Education will meet at 5 p.m. in the Board of Education Center, 1805 S. 13th St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • NHHS master plan update
  • Pre-K budget update
  • Superintendent’s listening tour

Carolina Beach Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers, 1121 N. Lake Park Boulevard. The agenda includes consideration of a text amendment to amend Article 3, Sec. 3.20, fence regulations to address commercial pool fences and to amend Article 3: Zoning and Article 7: definitions of the UDO to address water-oriented businesses and personal watercraft sales and rental. The Brunswick County Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. in the Center of Applied Sciences and Technology, 1109 Old Ocean Highway. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • First Reading — Proposed Amendment to Leave Policy
  • Second Reading — Proposed Amendment to Teacher Contracts Policy

The Pender County Board of Education will hold a special meeting at 9 a.m. in the Dr. Katherine Herring Resource Center, 798 U.S. Highway 117, to discuss policy revisions and the JH Lea school. Meetings are livestreamed here.

Burgaw Board of Commissioners will meet at 4:30 p.m. at the Burgaw Town Center, 108 E. Wilmington St. The agenda includes departmental updates as well as a Parks & Recreation Month Proclamation

The Oak Island Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. at Oak Island Town Hall. The agenda includes consideration of amendment to the Town’s Code of Ordinances (Digging Holes on Beach).

Wednesday, July 9

Topsail Beach Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. The agenda includes department reports, consideration and vote on resolution of intent to close the end of Nixon Avenue and consideration of personnel policy amendments. The meeting will livestream here.

The NC State ABC Board will meet at the ABC Commission Office Complex, 400 E. Tryon Road, Raleigh. The agenda includes hearing cases and and  permittee eligibility for Saleh Ali Mohamed T/A Brothers Corner Mart (00208758AK – 999.)

Thursday, July 10

The Wilmington Historic Preservation Commission will meet at 5:30 p.m. in city hall, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • 2-18 Nun Street: Roof replacement– composite slate to architectural shingle
  • Possible Landmark Approval: Wilmington Iron Works, 201 South Water Street

North Topsail Beach Planning Board will meet at 6:00 p.m. in the Town Hall, 2008 Loggerhead Court. The agenda includes the Tiki Bar compliance review and an update to the 2025 Southeastern NC Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan. The meeting will livestream here.

The Wrightsville Beach Board of Alderman will meet at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers, 321 Causeway Drive. The agenda includes a public hearing and consideration to amend the land use ordinance to modify the special use process,

introduce conditional zoning and revisit the table of permitted uses. The meeting will be uploaded here. 

Carolina Beach Planning and Zoning Board will meet at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers, 1121 North Lake Park Boulevard. The agenda includes consideration of a text amendment to amend Article 3, Sec. 3.6 Accessory Use Standards and a zoning map amendment to rezone 301 Canal Drive from Marina Business to Central Business District. The meeting will livestream here. 

The Surf City Planning Board will meet at 4 p.m. in the Surf City Municipal Complex, 214 West Florence Way. An agenda was not posted by press. The meeting will livestream here.

The New Hanover County Planning Board will meet at 6 p.m. in the NHC Courthouse, 24 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Rezoning request for approximately 5.18 acres zoned R-15, Residential
  • located at 7715 Market St & 7718, 7740 Alexander Rd to (CZD) B-2, Regional Business and (CZD) R-5, Residential Moderate High Density for a convenience store with fuel stations, fast-food restaurant with drive-thru, with row-style dwelling units
  • Maintenance Amendment to Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) Standards for signs

The ILM Airport Authority will meet at 5 p.m. at the ILM Executive Conference Room at ILM. The agenda includes an agreement with NC Department of Transportation for NHCAA to pay up to $1 million toward the construction project to widen 23rd Street from MLK Parkway to Airport Boulevard.

Friday, July 11

The UNCW Board of Trustees will meet in a special meeting to discuss the Student Housing Village Phase III in Alderman Hall, 601 S. College Road. The agenda can be viewed here.
