Homicide investigation underway after weekend shooting downtown

WILMINGTON — Wilmington Police Department is investigating a homicide after a man shot early Sunday morning downtown succumbed to his injuries.

Just before 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, officers responded to the 100 block of North Front Street after reports of multiple gunshots. They found a victim with life-threatening injuries and immediately began life-saving measures before the individual was transported to Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

The victim has been identified as 34-year-old Raquan Wilson. Despite medical efforts, Wilson passed away at the hospital.

The Wilmington Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division continues to look into the case as a homicide. The WPD requests anyone with information to contact 910-343-3600 or submit a tip anonymously via the Tip 411 app.
