The Agenda: Local government meetings this week

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government and community meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, it will be included, too.

Monday, June 16

The Wilmington City Council will hold an agenda review at 8:30 a.m. in city hall, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here. 

The New Hanover County Commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. in the NHC Courthouse, 24 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Trillium update
  • Approval to purchase property at 21 S. 13th St. 

The Leland Town Council will meet at 1:00 p.m. in the town hall, 102 Town Hall Drive. The agenda includes:

  • Fiscal year grant overview
  • Staff updates on Board and Committee Appointments
  • Staff updates on Budget Communication Plan 

The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners will meet at 6:00 p.m. in the Commissioners’ Chambers at the David R. Sandifer Administration Building on 30 Government Center Drive. The agenda includes:

  • Fire department personnel subsidy
  • Proposed legislation prohibiting open burning of land-clearing debris involving more than 5 contiguous acres

Kure Beach Town Council will hold a special meeting at 12 p.m. in Council Chambers. The purpose of the meeting is for a closed session to conduct department head evaluations and consultation with the town attorney.

Kure Beach Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers. The agenda includes adoption of the fiscal year 25-26 budget ordinance, approval of the 2025 emergency plan, and recognition of retiring Kure Beach Police Chief Micheal Bowden.

Pender County Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m., 805 S. Walker Street. The agenda includes a public hearing on the fiscal year 25-26 budget ordinance, an update on the Imagine Pender 2050 Land Use project, and approval to submit an RFP to the Pender Topsail Post and Voice and the Wilmington StarNews. Tuesday, June 17

The Wilmington City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. in city hall, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Public hearing on the FY2026 Annual Action Plan for CDBG & HOME Funds 
  • Ordinance Making Appropriations to the General Fund for the Fiscal Year Beginning July 1, 2025
  • Resolution to Authorize Upset Bid Process for 2451 S College Road

Surf City Board of Adjustment will meet at 3 p.m. in the Surf City Municipal Complex, 214 W. Florence Way. An agenda was not posted by press.

Topsail Beach Town Council will hold a special meeting at 10 a.m. to adopt the fiscal year 25-26 budget ordinance.

Brunswick County Board of Elections will meet at 2 p.m. in commissioners’ chambers at David R. Sandifer Building, 30 Government Center Drive NE in Bolivia. An agenda was not posted by press but the public can attend in person or via Zoom here.

Belville ABC Board will meet at Brunswick Community College, 2045 Enterprise Dr. at 6:30 p.m. The agenda includes discussion of employee raises, the 2026 budget, and getting a new accountant and auditor. 

Brunswick County Schools will hold committee meetings beginning at 9 a.m. in the BCS administrative offices, 35 Referendum Drive. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agendas include:

  • Timeline for New Elementary School
  • 2025 Demographic Report Update
  • YONDR Pouches for High School

Wednesday, June 18

Pender County Board of Adjustment will meet at 9 a.m., Public Assembly Room, 805 S. Walker Street. The agenda includes a variance request seeking to reduce the side yard setback for a personal structure in the residential performance zoning district. The meeting will livestream here.

The Brunswick Regional Water and Sewer H2GO will meet at 5 p.m. in the Reverse Osmosis Plant, 146 Gregory Road. The agenda includes:

  • FY2025 Fund 50 Budget Ordinance Amendment
  • Resolution 2025-06-01 Interim Finance Officer
  • H2GO Administrative and Operations Facility Update

The New Hanover County Schools Finance Committee will meet at 2:30 p.m. in the Board of Education Center, 1805 S. 13th St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • New facility for Isaac Bear 
  • Endowment Health Science Academy grant
  • Endowment early literacy grant

Thursday, June 19

Topsail Beach BIS Committee will meet at 2 p.m. The agenda includes an update on the BIS fund and updates on the Rocky Mount project and Island-Wide Beach Vitex project. 

Town of Navassa will hold its public hearing for its 2025-2026 budget at its town council meeting on June 19, 7 p.m. An agenda was not posted by press but the town meets at 338 Main St. The budget can be accessed here.

The Leland Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. in the town hall, 102 Town Hall Drive. The agenda includes:

  • Resolution Approving a New Stormwater Performance Security Agreements 
  • Resolution Accepting the Dedication of the Street Improvements of Brunswick Forest Development
  • Budget Amendment Reappropriating $1,000,000 in Grant Proceeds

The Southport Planning Board will meet at 6 p.m. in the Southport Community Building, 223 E. Bay St.  The agenda includes:

  • Zoning map amendment regarding the historic district overlay
  • Zoning text amendment regarding stormwater regulations

Burgaw Planning Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. at Burgaw Town Center, 108 E. Wilmington St. An agenda was not posted by press.

The New Hanover County ABC Board meets at 9 a.m. at 6009 Market St. An agenda was not posted by press.

Community meeting for a developer’s request for a conditional rezoning at 2929 Market St., where the Azalea Inn is located. It starts at 6 p.m. at Hotel Lela Tapestry Collection, 5004 Market St.

Friday, June 20

Surf City Town Council will meet at 9 a.m., in the Surf City Municipal Complex, 214 W. Florence Way. An agenda was not posted by press.
