Man arrested after attempting to flee police, crashing vehicle

27-year-old Deandrez Robbins

WILMINGTON — An attempted traffic stop turned criminal Tuesday afternoon when Wilmington police tried to pull over a vehicle on Kerr Avenue.

The driver sped off from WPD shortly after 12:30 p.m. as officers were attempting to pull over the vehicle on Kerr Avenue. But upon exiting the scene, the drive lost control of the car and crashed it on Burnt Mill Drive.

According to WPD: “The vehicle hit the curb, went across Randall Parkway, and then came to a rest in the parking lot of a nearby business.”

Officers detained a juvenile at the scene, while the driver and another vehicle occupant ran away onto a path behind the business. Police detained the male passenger on Farmer Drive and the driver was apprehended on the trail.

Officers also located marijuana in the vehicle.

27-year-old Deandrez Robbins of Leland has been charged with exceeding the posted speed limit, careless and reckless, possession of schedule VI controlled substance, and use of cellphone while driving.
