The Agenda: Meetings in local government

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government and community meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, it will be included, too.

Monday, March 31

The Wilmington City Council will hold an agenda review at 8:30 a.m. in city hall, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here.

Topsail Beach Board of Commissioners will meet for a special meeting at 1:30 p.m. at 820 S. Anderson Blvd. The agenda includes a discussion and vote to fill a vacancy on the board of commissioners.

Tuesday, April 1

The New Hanover County Board of Education will meet at 5 p.m. in the Board of Education Center, 1805 S. 13th St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Superintendent’s recommended budget 
  • NHCS employee performance bonus plan ad-hoc committee 

Cape Fear Public Utility Authority Executive Committee will meet at 9 a.m. at 235 Government Center Dr. The agenda includes an amendment to CFPUA’s articles of incorporation to remove term limits.

Surf City Town Council will meet at 4:30 p.m. at Surf City Municipal Complex, 214 W. Florence Way. The agenda includes approval of the Surf City Fitness site plan and a public hearing for a tree canopy ordinance amendment. 

Pender County Planning Board will meet at 7 p.m. at Pender County Hampstead Annex, 15060 US Hwy 17. The agenda includes a request to rezone Topsail two parcels totaling approximately 27.5 acres from the Residential Performance zoning district to the General Business zoning district.

The Wilmington City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. in city hall, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Resolution Approving the Second Amendment to the Amended and Restated Purchase and Development Agreement for the River Place Development, and Authorizing the City Manager to Sell Property to the Developer at Fair Market Value
  • Ordinance Amending the Land Development Code, Chapter 18, to Provide a Height Exception for Hospitals 

The Brunswick County Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. in the Center of Applied Sciences and Technology, 1109 Old Ocean Highway. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Policy 7340 on employee dress and appearance
  • Propose capital outlay budget for 2025-2026

The Southport Board of Aldermen will have a special budget meeting to discuss the police department budget at 9 a.m. in the Indian Trail Meeting Hall, 113 W Moore St. Meetings are livestreamed here

Wednesday, April 2

New Hanover County Airport Authority will meet at 5 p.m. at the ILM executive conference room, 1740 Airport Blvd. The agenda includes staff reports on business development, finance, marketing, and air service development.

North Topsail Board of Aldermen will meet at 11 a.m. at 2008 Loggerhead Court. The agenda includes a public hearing for Onslow Shellfish and approval of an agreement with GFL Environmental to provide solid waste services.

The Wilmington Planning Commission will meet at 6 p.m. in city hall, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • 710 N. Kerr Ave.: Conditional district rezoning from R-10, Medium-density single-dwelling district, to MD-17(CD), High-density multiple-dwelling residential district (Conditional District) for a senior affordable multi-dwelling development.
  • Amend City Code Chapter 18 to replace special use permits with conditional zoning

The Wilmington Housing Authority Board of Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. in Grover Plaza, 1402 Little John Circle. 

Thursday, April 3

The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners will hold an agenda review at 4 p.m. in the NHC Government Center, 230 Government Center Drive. 

The New Hanover County Planning Board will meet at 6 p.m. in the NHC Courthouse, 24 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Text Amendment Request (TA25-01) – Request by Tammi Pis, applicant, on behalf of Wilmington Lodge #343, Loyal Order of Moose, INC, property owner, to amend Section 4.4.4 Standards for Specified Accessory Uses and Structures to allow RV and boat storage and RV camping as permitted accessory uses to Lodges, Fraternal, & Social Organizations with restrictions.
  • Rezoning Request (Z25-05) – Request by Cindee Wolf with Design Solu;ons, applicant, on behalf of Har-Ste Investments, LLC, property owner, to rezone approximately 19.32 acres from the (CZD) R-7, Residen;al and R-20, Residen;al districts to a (CZD) R-5, Residen;al Moderate-High Density district for an 82 unit Senior Living: Independent Living Retirement Community consisting of a mix of detached and attached single-family dwelling
