Teen facing drug possession charges

WILMINGTON — A teen has been arrested after Wilmington Police Department initiated a traffic stop Thursday.

Law enforcement arrested 18-year-old Mekhi Newkirk on multiple drug possession and trafficking charges. He was stopped in the 500 block of Maides Avenue.

Newkirk is being charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and trafficking in opium or heroin. He is currently being held at the NHSO Detention Center under a $200,000 bond.
