Man opens fire amid downtown fight on Saturday

WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Police Department arrested a man Saturday after he opened a fire during a fight in progress at Seventh and Nixon streets. Officers were on the scene to disperse the crowd and de-escalate the fight.

According to police 55-year-old Carlton McIntyre Sr. of Leland has been charged with felony possession of stolen firearm, possession of firearm by felon, discharge firearm in reckless manner, go armed to terror of people, and resist/delay/obstruct public officers.

Police apprehended McIntyre after he pulled a gun and shot near the crowd of people. According to WPD, officers ordered him to drop his weapon and when he didn’t, officers fired back before McIntyre eventually released the gun.

No one was harmed during the incident, which took place just before 3:30 p.m. McIntyre was given a $25,000 secured bond

The investigation is ongoing.
