71-year-old dies from weekend hit-and-run incident

WILMINGTON — After arresting a 19-year-old in a hit-and-run that took place on South College Road on Saturday, Wilmington Police Department announced the pedestrian struck by the vehicle has died.

71-year-old Stephen Ross passed away at the hospital Monday after succumbing to his injuries.

“Condolences go out to Ross’ friends and family during this difficult time,” according to WPD.

WPD said Ross attempted to cross the street when he was struck by a vehicle being driven by 19-year-old Thomas Murray. 

Murray’s charges now are increased from to felony hit-and-run with injury to felony hit-and-run death. He’s also charged with driving with revoked license and possession marijuana paraphernalia.

The investigation continues.
