Woman arrested for allegedly shooting firearm downtown

WILMINGTON — After midnight on New Year’s Eve, a woman in downtown Wilmington was arrested for allegedly firing a gun as pedestrians crowded streets.

According to the Wilmington Police Department, the incident happened at 1:30 a.m. on Jan. 1 at Market and Front streets. Officers heard gunshots in the vicinity and upon arrival found 20-year-old Daknotica Randolph standing at the intersection as passersby fled the area. No one was struck by gunfire.

Law enforcement challenged Randolph by gunpoint, to which she complied and was arrested. Randolph bonded out of New Hanover County Detention Center on a $10,000 secured bond.

The zero block of South Front Street was closed off for an hour for evidence gathering and the firearm used by Randolph was seized.
