OAK ISLAND — Now that Christmastime has passed and the tree has to come down, Oak island is making disposal of real pines and spruces easy.

The town’s public works department is hosting “Grinding of the Greens” on Dec. 26. All live Christmas trees, wreaths and garland can be brought to the Middleton Park Complex parking lot at 4610 E Dolphin Drive.

The town will grind the foliage to use as mulch in various town parks and facilities.

Before dropping off the items, be sure all lights and decorations are removed. Also, the town reminds residents to avoid placing tress on the beach or dunes and to avoid burning the trees in beach bonfires.
