Christmas tree recycling offered in New Hanover County

The third-generation company sells about 9% of its trees at its Wilmington retail location on the corner of Independence and Shipyard Blvd. - or roughly 3,000 of 38,000 total sold this year. NEW HANOVER COUNTY — Once Dec. 25 passes, locals will be looking to recycle their real Christmas trees.

Anyone without curbside pickup services offered through their municipalities — whether City of Wilmington or area beaches — will have an opportunity to drop off real trees, wreaths or garland at three area locations.

  • The Home Depot, 5511 Carolina Beach Road
  • The Home Depot, 210 Eastwood Road
  • New Hanover County Landfill, 5210 US Highway 421 North

All items must be removed of ornaments, lights, tinsel and stands before disposal.

The service is offered from Dec. 26 through Jan. 31.

For City of Wilmington customers, the recycling and trash services staff will collect trees, sans decorations and lights, on a customer’s regular trash day pickup. The trees are recycled into compost and mulch. Trees must be placed out separated from trash or recycling.
