WILMINGTON — A 13-year-old has been arrested, according to Wilmington Police Department, after a gun was found in the vicinity of his location.
Tuesday evening the Wilmington Police Department was called to Darlington Avenue when a suspect was reported seen with a gun.
Two drive-shootings had taken place in the area and damaged a residence at Metting Road. WECT reported a woman and her five children were put in the crossfire in their apartment, as bullets went through into the walls, front door and window. No one was injured.
When officers arrived on Darlington Avenue on Tuesday, they located a 13-year-old male exiting the woods near the Army Corps of Engineers building. WPD took the juvenile into custody.
“Following an extensive search by multiple units, officers located the handgun deep in the woods,” according to WPD.
The juvenile was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, resisting, delaying, or obstructing a police officer, and possessing a firearm by a minor.
The drive-by shootings investigation is still ongoing; WPD asks anyone with information to call (910) 343-3600 or use the anonymous Tip 411 app.
