LELAND — The Leland Police Department is investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that took the life of 56-year-old Cindy Uerkvitz Atherholt on Dec. 4.
Police and emergency crews responded to the area of U.S. 74 West and U.S. 17 South just after 5:30 p.m. for reports of a collision between a passenger vehicle and a pedestrian. The pedestrian was Atherholt, a Leland resident.
Atherholt was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the passenger vehicle was not injured.
According to LPD, initial investigations indicate the vehicle was traveling westbound on U.S. 74 when Atherholt suddenly entered the travel lane and was struck. No charges have been filed against the driver at this time.
The crash remains under investigation.
