PENDER COUNTY — The Pender County Sheriff’s Office and State Bureau of Investigation are investigating the death of 46-year-old Heather Lee Fennell.
Fennell was found dead at a residence in the 600 block of Sawgrass Road in Hampstead on Dec. 4. The Pender County Sheriff’s Office requested the SBI look into into her death, the cause still undetermined.
On Friday, Pender County Schools confirmed Fennell was a sixth-grade science teacher at Topsail Middle School.
“Our district recognizes the profound impact Ms. Fennell had on her students and colleagues,” the district released in a statement. “We extend our deepest condolences to her family during this difficult time. We are also committed to supporting our impacted school community, and counseling and other resources will be made available to students and staff as they process this tragic news.”
Port City Daily has requested more information on the investigation from the SBI but did not receive a response.
