The Agenda: Government meetings this week

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, we’ll include that below the listed meeting, too.

Tuesday, Nov. 12

Town of Belville Board of Adjustment will meet to approve the 2025 calendar year meetings after its Planning Board meets. The PB meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. at 63 River Road; its agenda includes two public hearings:

  • Proposed subdivision application from Edwin Burnett, ELB Family LF for 10 lots on approximately 6.6-acres at 600 River Road, adjacent to the intersection of Rice Hope Run and River Road, currently zoned R10 Residential
  • Text amendments to the Subdivision Ordinance

New Hanover County Board of Elections will have a regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. at 1241 Military Cutoff Rd. to conduct business as needed.

Wrightsville Beach Planning Board is scheduled to meet at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers of Town Hall, 321 Causeway Dr. An agenda was not posted by press.

Carolina Beach Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers, 1121 N. Lake Park Blvd. Meetings can be livestreamed here. The agenda includes two public hearings:

  • Amending definitions to add a Building Footprint per the applicant North Pier Holdings, LLC.
  • Approving financing terms, resolution of necessary finding and reimbursement resolution for a new Boardwalk restroom

Burgaw Board of Commissioners meet at 4:30 p.m. at Burgaw Town Center, 108 E Wilmington St. The meeting can be attended in person and the agenda includes three public hearing regarding amendments to the UDO: 

  • To add auction houses as by-right use in I-1 zoning district
  • To add language related to tree mitigation requirements and tree removal requirements of public property
  • To add language providing an additional option for the tree inventory

The Pender County Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. at the Dr. Katherine Herring Resource Center, 798 US HWY 117 S. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes: 

  • Student proficiency and spending 
  • Policy 6140 and and 4316 second readings 

The New Hanover County Board of Education will meet at 5 p.m. in the Board of Education Center, 1805 S. 13th St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • NHCS discipline update
  • Superintendent search update
  • IDEA resolution 

Brunswick County Planning Board will meet at 6 p.m. at David Sandifer Administration Building, 30 Government Center Dr. The agenda includes five rezoning applications and Unified Development Ordinance text amendments for accessory dwelling units, tree and landscaping, and transportation.

The Oak Island Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. in town hall, 4601 E. Oak Island Drive. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes a presentation from Otto Connect per parking.

Cape Fear Public Utility Authority Board will have a meeting at 9:00 a.m at 230 Government Center Dr. The agenda includes a $787,750 contract with Beheler Trucking, Inc. for the hauling of biosolids and a resolution accepting a low interest state loan for the Parallel Raw Water Transmission Main project.

Wednesday, Nov. 13

Town of Topsail Beach Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. at Town Hall, 820 S. Anderson Blvd. The agenda includes:

  • A plaque presentation and proclamation for former Mayor Steve Smith, declaring Nov. 13 Steve Smith Day
  • Public hearing regarding sandwich board signs
  • Discussion about filling a commissioner vacancy and mayor pro-tempore selection
  • Discussion about expanding paid parking to all beach and sound accesses

The Wilmington Planning Commission will meet at 6 p.m. in city hall, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes: 

  • Rezoning of 7725, 7729, 7753, 7759 Alexander Road from O&I(CZD), Conditional Office & Institutional to MD-17(CD), High-density multiple-dwelling residential (Conditional District) for a 253-unit multiple-dwelling development
  • Conditional district rezoning of 4950 Holly Tree Road and 340 Westchester Road from R-15, Moderate-density single-dwelling district, to RB (CD), Regional Business (Conditional District) for a private recreational facility 

North Carolina Alcohol Beverage Commission will have a meeting at 10 a.m. at the ABC Commission Complex in Raleigh. The agenda includes 69 case hearings including an ABC audit section hearing for T/A Millken’s Seafood in Shallotte.

Thursday, Nov. 14

Surf City Planning Board will meet at Surf City Municipal Complex Training Room, 214 W Florence Way. Meetings that are livestreamed can be watched here. The agenda includes:

  • Rezoning request for Applewood Trace
  • Consideration of conditional district modification
  • The Terraces subdivision preliminary plat, and and ordinance update

North Topsail Beach Planning Board will meet at 6 p.m. at Town Hall, 2008 Loggerhead Court. The agenda includes a discussion around ethics in decision-making.

Carolina Beach Planning and Zoning will meet at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers, 1121 N. Lake Park Blvd. Livestream the meetings here. The agenda includes a conditional zoning request to consider a K-5 school at 105 Dow Rd. at Seaside Chapel.

Leland Economic Development meeting takes place at 6 p.m. at town hall. The agenda includes a report from Barnes Sutton as well as monthly staff reports. It can be livestreamed here.

Brunswick Water and Sewer H2GO will hold a meeting at RO Water Treatment Plant Training Room, 146 Gregory Rd. The agenda includes a resolution to establish voting districts and a commissioner report on employee/board compensation.

Thursday, Nov. 14 

The Wilmington Historic Preservation Commission will meet at 5:30 p.m. in city hall, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Accessory structure and driveway at 113 N. Seventh St. 
  • Addition and renovation at 409 N. 15th St. 

Wrightsville Beach Board of Alderman will meet at 5:30 p.m. at Town Hall Council Chambers, 321 Causeway Dr. The agenda includes:

  • Consideration for the town manager to have authority to execute a contract with WithersRavenel to complete the pavement condition study.
  • Consideration of adopting the resolution (2024) 2342,  to execute and file applications for federal and/or state assistance on behalf of the town in connection with securing financial assistance through the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) grant program

Brunswick County Board of Elections will have a Pre-Canvass meeting at 9 a.m. at Cooperative Extension Training Room, 25 Referendum Drive.

The New Hanover County Commissioners will meet at 3 p.m. in the NHC Government Center, 230 Government Center Drive. An agenda was not posted by press. 

New Hanover County Board of Elections will have a special meeting at 2:00 p.m. at 1241 Military Cutoff Rd. to count absentee and provisional ballots.

Pender County Board of Elections will have an absentee/provisional meeting at 6:00 p.m. at the Board of Elections Office, 807 S. Walker St.

The Oak Island Town Council will hold a special meeting at 1 p.m. in town hall, 4601 E. Oak Island Drive. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Awarding bid for beach renourishment project
  • Review of planning board UDO recommendations 

Two boards will meet in the Town of Navassa on Thursday: the parks and recreation at 10 a.m. and the planning board at 6:30 p.m. Meetings take place at town hall, 338 Main St. Neither board posted an agenda before press.

Friday, Nov. 15

Surf City Council will host a work session at 9 a.m. at Surf City Municipal Complex Training Room, 214 W Florence Way. The agenda includes a flood ordinance update, sewer allocation policy and Holly Ridge cell site lease agreement. Meetings that are livestreamed can be watched here.

New Hanover County Board of Elections will have a special meeting at 11 a.m. at 1241 Military Cutoff Rd. for a county canvass of election results.

Brunswick County Board of Elections will have a canvass meeting at 11 a.m. at Cooperative Extension Training Room, 25 Referendum Drive. 

The Bald Head Island Village Council will meet at 10 a.m. in the Public Safety Complex, 273 Edward Teach Extension. Meetings are livestreamed here. An agenda was not posted by press.
