The Agenda: This week’s meetings in local government

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, we’ll include that below the listed meeting, too.

Monday, Oct. 21

Pender County Board of Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. in Pender County Public Assembly Room, 805 Walker St. in Burgaw. An agenda was not posted by press, but meetings can be livestreamed here.

Kure Beach Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. in council chambers, 117 Settlers Lane. The agenda includes preliminary cost estimates from potential tropical cyclone #8 from the finance department and a resolution to keep seasonal parking passes at the same rate. 

Brunswick County Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. at 30 Government Center Dr. The agenda includes an intergovernmental support agreement with MOTSU and discussion of the feasibility of a residential development moratorium.

New Hanover County Schools will hold a joint bond, capital and finance committee meeting at 12:30 p.m. in the Board of Education Center, 1805 S. 13th St. Meetings are live streamed here. The agenda includes:

  • 2026 bond discussion
  • 2025-2026 budget discussion
  • Capital projects 

The New Hanover County Commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. in the NHC Historic Courthouse, 24 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Approval of New Hanover County Stabilization and Reentry Center renovation
  • Staff presentation on periodic inspections 

The Southport Board of Aldermen will hold a special meeting at 9 a.m. in the Community Building, 223 E. Bay Street to hear a presentation by the Center for the Creative Arts and have discussion pertaining to the Old City Hall/Courthouse building. Meetings are livestreamed here. 

Tuesday, Oct. 22

Town of Leland Planning Board will meet at 6 p.m. at town hall, with the agenda including a vote on the Master Land Use Plan Amendment for the Brunswick Forest PUD; there also will be discussion about hotel parking requirements. It can be livestreamed here.

Brunswick County Board of Elections will hold an absentee meeting at 4 p.m. at 30 Government Center Dr. An agenda was not posted by press.

Pender County Board of Elections will hold an absentee meeting at 6 p.m. at 807 S. Walker St. An agenda was not posted by press.

The New Hanover County Schools Policy Committee will meet at 10 a.m. in the Board of Education Center, 1805 S. 13th St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Policy 1510/4200/7270 – School Safety
  • Policy 2230 – Board Committees

The New Hanover County Board of Adjustment will meet in the NHC Historic Courthouse, 24 N. Third St. Meetings are live streamed here. An agenda was not posted by press. 

The Brunswick County Board of Education will hold committee meetings beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Brunswick County Schools Administrative Offices, 35 Referendum Drive. Meetings are livestreamed here. An agenda was not posted by press. 

Thursday, Oct. 24

Topsail Island Shoreline Protection Committee will meet at 2 p.m. in Surf City Town Hall council chambers, 214 W Florence Way, in Surf City. The agenda includes partner reviews, including federal legislation activities from Ward and Smith, P.A., with Congressman Mike McIntyre, and state activities from Maynard Nexsen PC with David Ferrell, as well as a review of upcoming leadership and meetings. North Carolina State Ports Authority Board of Directors will meet at 9 a.m. at the North Carolina Maritime Building at 2202 Burnett Boulevard. An agenda was not posted by press.

Cape Fear Public Utility Authority Long Range Planning Committee will meet at 3 p.m. at 235 Government Center Drive. An agenda was not posted by press.

The UNCW Board of Trustees will hold committee meetings beginning at 10:30 a.m. in UNCW’s Burney Center, 601 S. College Road. The agendas can be found here.
