The Agenda: Local government meetings this week

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, we’ll include that below the listed meeting, too.

Monday, Oct. 14

Leland Town Council will have an agenda review meeting at 1 p.m. at town hall, 102 Town Hall Dr. Staff will discuss ordinance research, zoning updates and map changes and council will set special meetings for January and February 2025. The agenda can and video of the meeting can be accessed here.

The Wilmington City Council will hold an agenda review at 8:30 a.m.. in city hall, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are live streamed here. 

The Pender County Board of Education will hold a special meeting to discuss personnel items at 10 a.m. at the Dr. Katherine Herring Resource Center,  798 US HWY 117 S. Meetings are live streamed here. 

Tuesday, Oct. 15

The Wilmington City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. in city hall, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are live streamed here. The agenda includes: 

  • Resolution Authorizing the City Manager to Enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Department for the Justice Assistance Grant Program
  • Ordinance Appropriating Funds for Skyline Center Upfits Project in the Amount of $6,299,636

Surf City Board of Adjustment meets at 3 p.m. at Surf City Municipal Complex in council chambers, 214 Florence Way in Hampstead. An agenda was not posted by press, but the public is welcome.

Surf City Beautification and Enhancement Committee meets at 4:30 p.m. at Surf City Municipal Complex in the municipal training room, 214 Florence Way in Hampstead. An agenda was not posted by press, but the public is welcome.

Belville ABC Board will meet at 44 River Road at 6:30 p.m. The agenda includes a report on best-selling items per store-status of extra purchases, status of current staffing, fourth quarter disbursements and more. The public is welcome to attend.

Brunswick Board of Elections will hold a regular and absentee meeting at 4 p.m. at 30 Government Center Dr.

Pender Board of Elections will hold an absentee meeting at 6 p.m. at 807 S. Walker St. in Burgaw.

New Hanover County Schools will host a second employee town hall at 5 p.m. in the Board of Education Center, 1805 S. 13th St. 

Wednesday, Oct. 16

Brunswick Regional Water and Sewer H2GO will meet at 5 p.m. at 146 Gregory Rd. in Belville. The agenda includes discussion of a severe weather plan and a resolution to adopt the Southeastern North Carolina Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan.

The North Carolina Alcohol Beverage Commission will meet at 10 a.m. at the ABC Commission Complex.

Thursday, Oct. 17

The Wilmington Board of Adjustment will meet at 1 p.m. in city hall, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are live streamed here. The agenda includes:

  • 4009 Masonboro Loop Road: Variance to accessory structure 
  • 1 Hanover St.: Variance to Legacy City Code Section for setback regulations, maximum wall height, and street level facade requirements.

Topsail Board of Commissioners meet at 6 p.m. at town hall, 820 S. Anderson Blvd. The agenda includes a public hearing for a text amendment regarding the flood damage prevention ordinance, as well as discussion about Historical Society of Topsail Island’s $10,000 funding request and how it will move forward per filling a vacancy on the board. 

Topsail Beach, Inlet and Sound Committee meets at 2 p.m. at town hall, 820 S. Anderson Blvd. The agenda includes discussion about a 30-year beach management plan, recommended changes, and developing timeline approval. 

Burgaw Planning Board will meet at Burgaw Town Center, 108 E. Wilmington St. An agenda was not posted by press, but it’s open to the public and starts at 5:30 p.m. 

Navassa Town Council will host a special meeting at 7:30 p.m. at 338 Main St. An agenda was not posted by press.

The New Hanover County Commissioners will hold an agenda review at 4 p.m. in the NHC Government Center, 230 Government Center Drive. An agenda was not posted by press. 

The Southport Planning Board will meet at 6 p.m. in the Southport Community Building, 223 E. Bay St. Meetings are live streamed here. An agenda was not published by press. 

Friday, Oct. 18

Surf City Town Council will host a work session at 9 a.m. at 214 W Florence Way in Hampstead. The meeting can be livestreamed here; an agenda was not posted by press.
