The Agenda: Government meetings this week

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, we’ll include that below the listed meeting, too.

Monday, Sept. 9

Brunswick County Planning Board will meet at 4:00 p.m. in the Commissioners Chambers in the David R. Sandifer Administration Building, 30 Government Center Drive in Bolivia.  The agenda includes:

  • A public hearing for the Midway Tract planned development. A proposed 3,616 residential units spread across 1,502 acres, with 26 acres designated for commercial use, situated between N.C. Highway 211, Gilbert Road SE, Midway Road SE, and Clemmons Road SE.
  • A public hearing for the addition of 74 acres of commercial space to a previously approved development for 2,500 units on Ocean Highway. 
  • A rezoning request for 1.16 acres at 8802 No. 5 School Road near Ash from site built high density residential to medium density residential. 

Tuesday, Sept. 10

Town of Burgaw Commissioners meeting takes place at Burgaw Town Center, 108 E. Wilmington St. at 4 p.m. The agenda includes updates from various departments, including a resolution of 2024-25 allowable costs and cost principles for expenditure of American Rescue Plan Act Coronavirus state and local fiscal recovery funds by North Carolina Local Governments. The public is welcome.

Carolina Beach Town Council meets at 6 p.m. in council chambers, 1121 N. Lake Park Blvd. The agenda includes two public hearings — one, on a conditional zoning from Ant Bates Motel LLC to consider an addition to a bar at 3 Cape Fear Blvd. and another on preliminary assessment resolution to improve the 1500 block of Spot Lane and to adopt a Capital Project Ordinance. Cape Fear Public Utility Authority Board will meet at 9 a.m. at 230 Government Center Dr. The agenda includes resolutions to support numerous funding applications to the Department of Environmental Quality and a $104,400 funding amendment for CDM Smith engineering services for the River Road Booster PS and waterline interconnect.

Oak Island ABC Board will meet at 10 a.m. at the ABC store, 5402 E. Oak Island Dr.

New Hanover County Board of Elections will meet at 5:30 p.m. at 1241A Military Cutoff Road. An agenda was not posted by press.

Pender County Board of Elections will meet at 6 p.m. at 807 S. Walker St. An agenda was not posted by press.

Leland Town Council will have a special meeting at 6 p.m. in town hall, 102 Town Hall Drive, in Leland. The agenda includes a strategic plan. 

Belville Planning Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the commissioners chambers of town hall, 63 River Road in Belville. The agenda includes a resolution made by the planning board to express appreciation to Dean St. John.

Oak Island Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. in the council chambers of town hall at 4601 E Oak Island Drive. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes: 

  • A public hearing for proposed text amendment to the UDO regarding the size of large, single family dwellings and height limitations. 
  • Presentations from Sam Boswell with Cape Fear Rural Planning Organization. 
  •  Approval of grant funding contract for dune planting following the 2024-2025 Beach Nourishment Project. 

The Pender County Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. in the Dr. Katherine Herring Resource Center,  798 US HWY 117 S. The meeting will be live streamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Accountability update 2023-2024 
  • Youth Risk Behavior Survey
  • Transportation update
  • PCS Mental Health Plan

Wednesday, Sept. 11

Brunswick Regional H2GO Water and Sewer Board of Commissioners will meet at 5:00 p.m. in the Ro Water Treatment Plant Training Room, 146 Gregory Road in Belville. The agenda inlcludes: 

  • A budget amendment for Malmo Loop pump station & force main fund 
  • A purchase order for Malmo Loop wetland mitigation 
  • Arboretum at Brunswick Forest phase 2B release performance guarantee

Southport ABC Board will meet at 2 p.m. at the Southport ABC store, 714 N. Howe Street.

Southport Board of Alderman and the Recreation Committee will have a special meeting at 6 p.m. at the Southport Community Building, 223 East Bay Street in Southport. An agenda was not posted by press. 

Thursday, Sept. 12

Surf City Planning Board are scheduled to meet at 4 p.m. in the Surf City Municipal Complex Training Room, 214 W Florence Way in Hampstead. An agenda was not posted by press; the livestream can be accessed here.

Town of Topsail Beach Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. at town hall, 820 Anderson Blvd. The agenda includes updates from departments, as well as a text amendment to conditional zoning and discussion of water meter surplus. Stream the video here.

Wrightsville Beach Board of Aldermen will gather at town hall in council chambers, 321 Causeway Dr. The agenda includes a public hearing regarding amending approval of Ordinance No. (2024) 1861 amending Section 155.7.10 Fences and Walls, of the town code and consideration of employment agreement for the new town manager and announcement of the appointment.

Carolina Beach Planning and Zoning will meet at 6 p.m. in council chambers, 1121 N. Lake Park Blvd. The agenda includes a public discussion about a preliminary plat for a 4-lot subdivision from Black Lotus Properties, LLC, located at 1231 Saint Joseph Street. Also a chair and co-chair will be voted upon. Meetings can be livestreamed here.

Leland’s Economic Development Committee will meet at 6 p.m. at town hall, 102 Town Hall Drive in Leland. The agenda includes a presentation from guest speaker, General Manager at Blair-HSM Jim Flock and an economic development report. 

Navassa’s Park and Recreation Board will meet at 10 a.m. at 338 Main Street in Navassa. An agenda was not posted by press. 

Navassa’s Planning  Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. at 338 Main Street in Navassa. An agenda was not posted by press. 

Southport Board of Alderman will meet at 6 p.m. in the Southport Community Building, 223 East Bay Street in Southport. An agenda was not posted by press. 

The Historic Preservation Commission meets at 5:30 p.m. in Thalian Hall, 102 North 3rd Street, 2nd floor. Nine items are on the agenda, including exterior alterations to 116 Dock St. Previously New Anthem Brewing Co., it’s being renovated into a new brewery, Greensboro-based Oden Brewery. The New Hanover County Commissioners will hold an agenda review at 4 p.m. room 138-139 of the NHC Government Center, 230 Government Center Drive. An agenda was not posted by press.
