The Agenda: In local government this week

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, we’ll include that below the listed meeting, too.

Monday, July 22

Brunswick County Library Board of Trustees will meet at 4 p.m. in meeting room #127 at the Southwest Brunswick Branch Library, 9400 Ocean Highway West in Carolina Shores. The public is welcome to attend the meeting. An agenda was not posted by press. 

The Pender County Board of Education will hold a special meeting to discuss three capital projects at 10 a.m. in the Dr. Katherine Herring Resource Center, 798 US HWY 117 S. Meetings are live streamed here. 

The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. in the NHC Courthouse, 24 N. Third St. Room 301. Meetings are live streamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Public hearing on a proposed Scotts Hill water main extension
  • Public hearing on staff’s proposed changes to residential infill and density requirements 
  • Public hearing on the Palm Grove Apartments development 

Tuesday, July 23

Belville ABC Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. at 63 River Rd. The agenda includes a legislative update, discussion on the current CPA and recap of ABC conference. There also will be manager reports and the board will go into a closed session.

Carolina Beach Town Council will have its monthly workshop in council chambers, 1121 N. Lake Boulevard, at 9 a.m. The agenda includes an update on a sunny day flooding project and a resolution about the town’s application for a grant to fund a sidewalk project, adjacent to S. Lake Boulevard, from Carolina Beach Lake to Alabama Avenue. 

The Town of Leland’s Board of Adjustment will meet at 2 p.m. in Town Hall, 102 Town Hall Drive. Meetings are livestreamed ​​here. The agenda includes three variance request.  

The Town of Leland’s Planning Board will meet at 6 p.m. in Town Hall, 102 Town Hall Drive. Meetings are livestreamed ​​here. The agenda includes a presentation of a Comprehensive Safety Action Plan (SS4A Plan) Development and a recommendation for the adoption of the Age-Friendly Community Strategic Plan. 

The Town of Oak Island’s Business Advisory Board will meet at 9 a.m. in the police department training room in Town Hall at 4621 East Oak Island Drive. An agenda was not posted by press.

The New Hanover County Board of Education will hold a special meeting at 10 a.m. in the Board of Education Center, 1805 S. 13th St. to discuss criteria for the hiring of an interim superintendent. Meetings are livestreamed here

The New Hanover County Board of Adjustment will meet at 5 p.m. Suite 110 of the NHC Government Center, 230 Government Center Drive. Meetings are livestreamed here. An agenda was not posted by press. 

 Wednesday, July 24

CANCELED: The Town of Oak Island’s Town Council will hold a special meeting again at 5 p.m. in Council Chambers in Town Hall, 4621 East Oak Island Drive. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes a workshop on proposed amendments to the Unified Development Ordinance table of uses, definitions, and supplemental regulations. 

The Brunswick County Board of Education will hold committee meetings at 9 a.m. in the board room of the Brunswick County Schools Administrative Offices at 35 Referendum Drive in Boilvia. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes:  

  • School Nurse Funding Initiative Agreement
  • A policy update for the emergency administration of Naloxone
  • A presentation from MyFutureNC

Thursday, July 25

Cape Fear Public Transportation Authority (Wave Transit) will meet at 12:30 p.m. in the board room at Forden Station, 505 Cando St. The agenda includes updates from the executive director, financial director and deputy director, plus new business. Meetings are open to the public; no virtual attendance. There is also a public comment period, 5 minutes per person. Comments can be provided in person or via written form; download or pick up the form from a Wave Transit transfer station and submit by 5 p.m. the day before the meeting via e-mail to info@wavetransit.com.

The Trillium Regional Board will meet at 4 p.m. at the Trillium office, 165 Center Street in Jacksonville. Meetings are open to the public. An agenda was not posted by press. 

Cape Fear Public Utility Authority’s Sustainability Committee will meet at 2 p.m. in NHC Room 136, 230 Government Center Dr. The agenda will include a greenhouse gas inventory for 2022 and 2023. Afterward at 3 p.m. the CFPUA’s Long Range Planning Committee will meet in the same place; the agenda includes an easement acquisition progress report and update on the water mains to PFAS contaminated wells project.
