Man arrested in Carolina Beach for deadly stabbing

[Update: The Carolina Beach Police Department has identified the victim as 28-year-old Dakota Ryan Capes, a Carolina Beach resident.]

CAROLINA BEACH — An early-morning homicide led to the arrest of a 40-year-old man in Carolina Beach on Independence Day.

Law enforcement responded to a unit at 625 Spencer Farlow Dr. upon reports of a “person down.” They arrived to a deceased victim who had been stabbed.

An investigation led to the arrest of James Arthur Johnson from Laurinburug, charged with second-degree murder.

A magistrate put Johnson on a no-bond hold in the New Hanover County Detention Center, ahead of his first appearance.

The investigation is ongoing and was assisted by Kure Beach Police Department, and the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office. The victim’s identity has not been released.
