Two minors, 18-year-old arrested in Henry Street shooting

WILMINGTON — Suspects  in a Saturday night shooting on Henry Street are in police custody and have been charged with multiple felony and misdemeanor offenses. 

James Butler, an 18-year-old Wilmington resident, has been charged with the following:

  • 11 counts of discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling
  • Two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Felony possession of a stolen firearm
  • Discharge from an enclosure 
  • Felony conspiracy

Two minors have also been arrested in connection with the case. 

Butler is currently being held under a $3 million secured bond at the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center. The Wilmington Police Department has taken out a secure custody order for the two other minor suspects. 

The Wilmington Police Department were notified of the shooting through its ShotSpotter system – a gunshot detection technology network – and conducted a traffic stop in the 400 Henry Street block area which successfully identified the suspect vehicle. 

Two firearms were located inside the vehicle and officers observed property damage at the activation site, yet no injuries were reported.
