SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, we’ll include that below the listed meeting, too.

Monday, May 13

New Hanover County Board of Elections will meet at 5 p.m. at 1241 A Military Cutoff Road in the Longleaf Room ahead of Tuesday’s secondary primary election day. The board will review absentee ballot applications and discuss other election-related matters as needed. The meet can be attended in person or via livestream here, as well as telephonically by dialing 1-336-218-2051, with conference ID 998 914 099 followed by pound (#). 

Leland Town Council will have a review meeting at 1 p.m. to go over the agenda for Thursday’s regularly scheduled meting.

Pender County Board of Elections will meet ahead of secondary primary election day to go over absentee ballots and host a pre-election meeting. The meeting is open to the public at 807 S. Walker Street in Burgaw at 6 p.m.

Brunswick County Board of Elections will meet ahead of secondary primary election day to go over absentee ballots and host a pre-election meeting. The meeting is open to the public at the Board of Elections Office, 75 Stamp Act Drive NE, Building H, in Bolivia at 5 p.m.

The Brunswick County Board of Education will have a special meeting at 1 p.m. in the Brunswick County Schools Administrative Offices, 35 Referendum Drive to approve personnel and hold a work session to review the proposed five-year strategic plan and 2024-2025 budget proposal. The New Hanover County Board of Education will hold a budget meeting at 9 a.m. in the Board of Education Center, 1803 S. 13th St. Meetings are live streamed here.

Brunswick County Board of Commissioners has called an 11 a.m. special meeting at 3954 Clearwell Dr. in Leland; there is no indication what will be discussed on the agenda

The Pender County Board of Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. in the Pender County Administrative Building, 805 S. Walker St. in Burgaw. An agenda was not posted by press. 

Brunswick County Planning Board meets at 6 p.m. at 30 Government Center Dr. The agenda includes: 

  • Rezoning for 27 acres on US 74/76 near Northwest from rural residential to industrial
  • Rezoning 51 acres near Ash from rural residential to high density residential
  • Traffic impact analysis study UDO amendment change

Tuesday, May 14 

The New Hanover County Tourism Development Authority is celebrating National Travel and Tourism Week May 19-25. To kick it off, a Travel Rally Breakfast and Celebration will be held at the Wilmington Convention Center. The CVB will introduce plans for the organization’s first-ever Tourism Destination Master Plan and outline how the interactive process and community engagement will help create a vision for the future that aligns tourism development opportunities and impacts with community needs, balancing destination growth and resident quality of life. Individual beach community plans will provide additional research to acutely identify opportunities and needs within each town.

Oak Island Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. at council chambers in town hall; the meeting can be livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • Three public hearings and action taken on the UDO on signs in the airport district, off-premise signs and zoning map amendment to the highway overlay district and proposed zoning map amendment to the highway overlay on Middleton Road
  • Presentation on the FY24-25 budget
  • Consideration of action to direct planning board to review section 2.15, height limit exceptions

The North Carolina State Ports Authority Finance Committee meets at 3 p.m. in the Board Room of the North Carolina Maritime Building, 2202 Burnett Boulevard. Members are welcome in person; an agenda was not posted by press.

The Wilmington Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization’s MPTC committee will meet at 10 a.m. in room 154F at 929 N. Front St. The agenda includes: 

  • Financial Element of the 2050 MTP and Alternative Funding Sources 

Southport Board of Alderman will hold a special meeting regarding the FY 2024-2025 budget at 11 a.m. in the Southport Community Building, 223 E. Bay Street. It’s open to the public and can be livestreamed here.

The Pender County Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. in the Dr. Katherine Herring Resource Center 798 Us Highway 117 S. Meetings are live streamed here. The agenda includes:

  • First readings of several policies 
  • Facility naming proposal
  • CTE update and local action plan

The Burgaw Board of Commissioners will meet at 4:30 p.m. in Burgaw Town Center, 108 E. Wilmington St. The agenda includes:

  • Splash Pad Concept Proposal by the Parks Foundation of Burgaw

Wednesday, May 15

A workshop on the Wilmington International Airport Noise Feedback Study will take place at 5 p.m. at Snipes Gymnasium, 2150 Chestnut St. The goal is for community members to learn more about the study’s process, ask questions and provide feedback at the open house. Read more about it here.

The Wilmington Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization’s Technical Coordinating Committee will meet at 10 a.m. in room 154F at 929 N. Front St. The meeting will be live streamed here. The agenda includes: 

  • Wilmington Urban Area MPO Travel Demand Model
  • Wilmington to Raleigh Passenger Rail Study Update
  • Cape Fear Navigating Change 2050 Draft Financial Forecast and Alternative Funding and Financing Opportunities

H2GO Brunswick Water and Sewer will meet at 5 p.m. at 146 Gregory Road. The agenda include an architectural/engineering agreement for H2GO administrative and operations facility, revised travel policy, and the directors report, including updates on Ploof Road deed of dedication and Brunswick Forest phase 9, section 1.

Brunswick County Zoning and Adjustment will meet at 6 p.m. in commissioners’ chambers in the David R. Sandifer Administration Building, 30 Government Center Dr. An agenda was not posted by press.

The Topsail Beach Board of Commissioners will meet for  budget workshop at 9 a.m. in town hall, 820 S. Anderson Blvd. 

Thursday, May 16

Oak Island Planning Board will meet at 9 a.m. at council chambers in town hall; the meeting can be livestreamed here. The agenda includes discussion of the UDO, board member and staff reports.

Town of Navassa regular council meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. at 338 Main St. An agenda was not posted by press.

The Wilmington Board of Adjustment will meet at 1 p.m. in city council chambers in city hall, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are live streamed here. The agenda includes: 

  • 215 Summer Rest Road – Variance to the rear yard setbacks
  • 2508 Oleander Drive – Accessory dwelling units, to allow the construction of a new primary dwelling on the site therefore increasing the nonconformity of the existing structures.  
  • 5123 Market Street (Store #1106) – Variance to Section 18-341 to allow a nonresidential parking facility to exceed the maximum allowable parking

Southport Board of Alderman will hold a special meeting regarding the FY 2024-2025 budget at 9 a.m. at the Indian Trail Meeting Hall, 113 W. Moore Street. It’s open to the public and can be livestreamed here.

The Bald Head Island Village Council will meet at 10 a.m. in the Public Safety Complex, 273 Edward Teach Extension. Meetings are live streamed here. An agenda was not posted by press.
