BRUNSWICK COUNTY — A juvenile suspect is currently in custody after Leland and Brunswick County police officers connected them to a series of recent car break ins in the county.

On Monday, officers responded to the 1200 block of Maple Tree Drive in response to information about vehicle break-ins. According to a Leland press release, a suspect attempted to flee the scene in a stolen car. Officers used a drone and Brunswick County K-9 unit to locate the suspect and are investigating potential involvement from other individuals.

The initial investigation indicates suspects broke into multiple cars, stole one and were attempting to steal a second before officers intervened. A third vehicle stolen out of New Hanover County was also recently recovered and believed to be involved.

The juvenile is currently being held at New Hanover Regional Juvenile Detention Center on one count of larceny of a motor vehicle and additional charges are anticipated.
