The Agenda: Government meetings happening this week

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, we’ll include that below the listed meeting, too.

Monday, Feb. 26

The Town of Wrightsville Beach Bridge Replacement Committee will meet at 1 p.m. The agenda includes discussion of committee roles and responsibilities, WMPO tasks for the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge replacement that will not be done for Wrightsville Beach, and tasks and deadlines for specific members.

CFPUA Long-Range Planning Committee meets at 10:30 a.m. in NHC Room 322. The agenda includes the fiscal year 2025 and 10-year DRAFT Capital Improvements Plan, as well as prioritization of water main extensions to private wells, funded by $18 million special appropriation.

Tuesday, Feb. 27

The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners Non-County Agency Funding Committee will meet at 9 a.m. in the Multipurpose Conference Room 155 at the New Hanover County Government Center, 230 Government Center Drive, for the purpose of discussing the non-county agency funding for Fiscal Year 2024-2025.

Wilmington Housing Authority Community Outreach and Resident Services Committee will meet at 3 p.m. at Rankin Terrace, 415 N. 12th St. An agenda was not posted by press. Residents who need transportation assistance should 910-341-7700 ext. 224 by Tuesday at 9 a.m.

Carolina Beach Town Council will hold a workshop at 9 a.m. at Council Chambers, 1121 N. Lake Park Boulevard. The agenda includes an update from the Beautification Committee and a presentation by the Mural Committee on the Boardwalk/Centennial Mural.

New Hanover County Board of Elections will meet at Feb. 27, 5 p.m. in the Longleaf Room at the Board of Elections Office, 1241-A Military Cutoff Rd., to review absentee ballot applications and discuss other election-related matters as needed. Limited in-person seating will be available. To call in, dial 1-336-218-2051, with ID 710 816 689 followed by pound (#). The meeting is also livestreamed here.

Brunswick County Board of Elections will meet at 4 p.m. regarding absentee ballots, in the Commissioners’ Chambers at David Sandifer Administration Building, 30 Government Center Dr. an agenda was not posted by press.

Leland Planning Board meets at 6 p.m. in town hall. The agenda includes two text amendments, one to modify area yard and height requirements, the other to modify Leland’s town code of ordinances. See the agenda here; meetings are livestreamed here.

Wednesday, Feb. 28

The New Hanover County Board of Education will hold a budget work session at 2 p.m. in the Board of Education Center, 1805 S. 13th St. Meetings are live streamed here.

The Town of Topsail Beach planning board will meet at 2 p.m. at the Topsail Assembly Building, 720 Channel Boulevard. The agenda includes discussion of the comprehensive land use plan and the oceanside construction line, as well as consideration of staff recommended text amendments to the conditional zoning section of the town ordinance. 

The Wilmington Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization Board of Directors will meet at 3 p.m. in the sixth floor conference room at 320 Chestnut St. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes: 

  • Resolution adopting the Wilmington Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization’s Local Input Methodology for Prioritization 7.0 
  • Resolution supporting the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s application to the US Department of Transportation’s Bridge Investment Program (BIP) for the Replacement of the Wrightsville Beach Bridges
  • 2024-2033 STIP/MPO Transportation Improvement Program Administrative Modifications #24-2

The Southport Board of Aldermen will have a special meeting to review the city’s right-of-way enforcement and garner public feedback. The meeting will start at 5 p.m. in the Southport Community Building, 223 E. Bay St. Meetings are live streamed here. 

Thursday, Feb. 29

The New Hanover County Board of Education will hold a work session at 10:30 a.m. in the Board of Education Center, 1805 S. 13th St. Meetings are live streamed here.

Wilmington Housing Authority Finance and Development Committee will meet at 8:30 a.m. at WHA main office, 1524 S 16th St. An agenda was not posted by press.

The Southport Board of Aldermen will have a special goal-setting meeting at 8:30 a.m. at  Indian Trail Meeting Hall, located at 113 W. Moore St. Meetings are live streamed here.
