Southport reduces water, sewer rates ahead of merger

SOUTHPORT — The City of Southport’s water and sewer rates have been reduced, effective with the February bill in anticipation of the merger of Southport’s water and sewer utilities with Brunswick County later this year.

Because Southport and Brunswick County use different billing systems, the new lower Southport rates are very similar to the county’s rates but are not exact.

The city will continue to apply these lower rates until the merger is completed, and billing is assumed by Brunswick County. After the merger is completed, the county will begin charging its prevailing rates.
