The Agenda: In local government this week

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, we’ll include that below the listed meeting, too.

Monday, Jan. 22

The New Hanover County Commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. in the government center, 203 Government Center Drive, Suite 175. Meetings are livestreamed here. The agenda includes a diversity and equity assessment presentation.

Tuesday, Jan. 23

Town of Belville Planning Board is holding a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the commissioners chambers at 63 River Rd. The agenda includes addressing a planning  board vacancy and providing a transportation update.

Leland Planning Board will meet at 6 p.m. at town hall. The agenda includes a proposed text amendment to modify area, yard, and height requirements of the Town of Leland’s code of ordinances. It can be livestreamed here.

The Wilmington City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. in city hall’s council chambers, 102 N. Third St. Meetings are livestreamed here and the agenda includes:

  • Presentation of the year-end crime statistics 
  • Ordinance appropriating funding from the City of Wilmington, New Hanover County, and the New Hanover County school district to the Legion Stadium Synthetic Turf Field Replacement Project 
  • Resolution to establish a steering committee framework for the Greater Downtown Special Area Plan 

The Brunswick County Board of Education Committees will meet beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the Brunswick County Schools administrative offices, 35 Referendum Drive. Meetings are live streamed here. The agendas can be viewed here.

Wednesday, Jan. 24

Topsail Beach Planning Board will meet at 2 p.m. at Topsail Beach Town Hall at 820 S Anderson Blvd. The agenda includes a discussion of a conditional zoning ordinance. 

The New Hanover County Airport Authority will meet at 4:30 p.m. in the ILM Conference Room in the airport, 1740 Airport Blvd. Included are contract approvals with RS&H Design for phase 2 and garage bridging documents for more than $3.6 million. The agenda can be seen here and the public is welcome to attend.

Thursday, Jan. 25

Topsail Island Shoreline Protection Commission will meet at 2 p.m. at Surf City Town Hall, 214 W Florence Way. The agenda includes review of goals and accomplishments and agreement on NC lobbyist interviews.

Cape Fear Public Utility Authority will have three committee meetings. The Communications Committee meets at 1 p.m. and will discuss options for enhancing the CFPUA water tank appearance, according to the agenda. The Sustainability Committee meeting has been canceled for 2 p.m. At 3 p.m. the Long Range Planning Committee meets and will include 2025 capital improvement project previews, as well as connecting private well owners to CFPUA water service.

Cape Fear Public Transportation Authority will meet Jan. 25, 12:30 p.m., at Forden Station, 505 Cando St. Public comments are welcome; speakers are allowed 5 minutes. For those who cannot attend meetings in person, a form can be downloaded or picked up from a Wave Transit transfer station and submitted by 5 p.m. the day before the meeting via email, info@wavetransit.com. North Carolina State Ports Authority Board of Directors will meet at 9 a.m. in the boardroom of the North Carolina Maritime Building, 2202 Burnett Blvd. Public is welcome; an agenda was not posted by press.

The Town of Oak Island will hold a special meeting in Council Chambers, at Town Hall, at 4601 E. Oak Island Drive. The meeting will be livestramed here; an agenda was not posted by press.
