FORT FISHER — The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher will close to the public for a week to make upgrades.
From. Jan. 29 to Feb. 2, all three aquarium locations — Fort Fisher, Pine Knoll Shores and Roanoke — will shut down to tackle projects, enhance animal care and clean. Each site has some priority tasks on their to-do lists, including large, multi-day projects, which the teams can tackle only while the aquariums are closed.
During the year, the aquariums welcome about 1.2 million visitors, including thousands of students and hundreds of volunteers.
“The compassion and unwavering commitment of the North Carolina Aquariums team to the animals and the community is unmatched,” Michael P. Remige, acting director of NC Aquariums, said in a press release. “It’s important for us to take this time to begin 2024 with momentum and renewed focus on animal well-being and our conservation mission.”
All locations will reopen Saturday, Feb. 3 at 9 a.m. Advance tickets are required to visit and can be purchased online here. The aquarium in Fort Fisher is located at 900 Loggerhead Road in Kure Beach.
