WILMINGTON — One man is dead after a dirt bike, driven by minors, crossed into traffic and caused a collision.
Jason Tutchton, 29, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Monday, December 25. According to the Wilmington Police Department, two motorcycles were traveling eastbound on Market Street when a dirt bike crossed the southbound lane at 10th Street. Market Street traffic did have a green light at the time.
One 14-year-old male and a 10-year-old male were on the dirt bike at the time. Tutchton’s motorcycle struck the dirt bike, causing the two riders of the dirt bike and Tutchton to be ejected.
A second motorcyclist nearby lost control and that driver, 36-year-old John Paul, was ejected but suffered minor injuries.
The two juveniles were transported to the hospital by EMS. Both suffered non-life-threatening injuries during the incident, according to the WPD.
This is currently an ongoing investigation being conducted by the WPD Traffic Unit.
