WILMINGTON — Officers released the names of two individuals killed in a shooting Thursday night, though noted the investigation is still underway.

Wilmington resident Taemon Kennedy, 21, and Brunswick County resident Niyja Spain, 22, were killed during an altercation in a vehicle.
Wilmington Police Department units responded to a shooting just after 10 p.m. Thursday in a parking lot at 5229 Market Street. Prior to the incident, two individuals were meeting with two other males for a transaction inside a vehicle. After a brief conversation inside the car, a gun was discharged from the backseat into the front of the vehicle. The front passenger was struck from the gunshot.
Two men exited, one firing his weapon into the vehicle, striking one of the rear passengers multiple times.
