NEW HANOVER COUNTY — New Hanover County is offering assistance to residents now eligible for Medicaid coverage, once expansion goes into effect Dec. 1.

Residents are encouraged to review Medicaid qualifications and apply through ePass portal to receive benefits. Individuals can also submit a paper application or in person at New Hanover County Department of Health and Human Services, 1650 Greenfield St.
New Hanover County DHHS staff are ready to help individuals to understand if they qualify and guide them through the application process, if needed.
To be eligible for Medicaid benefits, an individual must:
- Be a U.S. citizen, ages 19 to 64, living in North Carolina
- Have a household income that is below 138% of the federal poverty level — about $20,000 for a single adult
North Carolina residency documents, verification of income and a social security number or immigration documents must be provided to meet the requirements.
Additionally, NHC staff will be available at the following outreach events during December to answer questions:
- Saturday, Dec. 2, noon to 3 p.m. at Union Missionary Baptist Church, 2711 Princess Place Drive
- Tuesday, Dec. 5, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at YWCA, 2815 College Road
- Wednesday, Dec. 6, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Nir Family YMCA, 2710 Market St.
- Thursday, Dec. 7, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at New Hanover County Main Library, 201 Chestnut St.
- Saturday, Dec. 9, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at New Hanover County Pleasure Island Library, 1401 N. Lake Park Blvd #72
- Tuesday, Dec. 12, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at YWCA, 2815 College Road
- Wednesday, Dec. 13, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Nir Family YMCA, 2710 Market St.
- Thursday, Dec. 14, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at New Hanover County Main Library, 201 Chestnut St.
- Saturday, Dec. 16, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at New Hanover County Northeast Library, 1241 Military Cutoff Road
- Tuesday, Dec. 19, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at YWCA, 2815 College Road
- Wednesday, Dec. 20, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Nir Family YMCA, 2710 Market St.
- Thursday, Dec. 21, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at New Hanover County Main Library, 201 Chestnut St.
