The agenda: Local government meetings this week

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, Port City Daily will include that below, too.

Monday, Nov. 20

Surf City Town Council will hold a work session at 4:30 p.m. at the Surf City Municipal Complex, 214 W. Florence Way. The meeting can be livestreamed on YouTube. A few items on the agenda include:

  • A public hearing on an economic development agreement
  • A rezoning request for Applewood Trace
  • Multiple budget amendments

New Hanover County Board of Commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. at the NHC Historic Courthouse, 24 N. Third St. in Wilmington. The meeting can be livestreamed on NHCTV and YouTube. A few items on the agenda include:

  • Adoption of a resolution supporting NCDOT grant application to USDOT’s Bridge Investment Program for the replacement of the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge. Read PCD coverage here.
  • Public hearing on Mason Inlet special assessment
  • Presentation on NHC water quality monitoring program 2022-2023 final report

Brunswick County Board of Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. at 30 Government Center Dr. Items on the agenda include an interlocal agreement for floodplain administration between Navassa and the county, as well as presentations and the strategic planning and goal setting workshop of FY25. 

Kure Beach Town Council meets at 6 p.m. in council chambers. Items on the agenda include a capital project budget ordinance for the Fort Fisher Boulevard and K Avenue intersection improvement project, as well as setting a legislative hearing for the beach management plan. The town will hold a reception for Mayor Bloszinsky afterward as a thank you for his 10 years of service; a new mayor will be sworn in during December’s meeting.

Pender County Schools Board of Education is holding a special meeting at 1 p.m. to consider and approve school improvement plans for State Designated Low-Performing Schools as required by N.C.G.S. 115C-105.37(a). It will be held at the Dr. Katherine Herring Resource Center, 798 US HWY 117 S., in Burgaw and livestreamed here.

The Town of Oak Island is holding a special meeting at 4 p.m. in council chambers at town hall to go into a special meeting and discuss specific personnel pursuant to N.C.G.S. 143-318-11(a)(6). (Action

Tuesday, Nov. 21

The Burgaw Police Advisory Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Burgaw Town Center, 108 E. Wilmington St.

Topsail Beach Beach Inlet Sound Committee will meet at 10 a.m. at 820 S. Anderson Blvd. The meeting can be livestreamed here. An agenda was not posted by press.

Kure Beach Town Council will hold a special meeting on at 5 p.m. in the council chambers at Town Hall for the purpose of holding a closed session for a personnel issue per N.C.G.S. 143-318.11(a)(6).
