NEW HANOVER COUNTY — SparkLab, a learning space promoting innovation across the state, will soon be in operation at New Hanover County’s Southeast Area Technical High School.
New Hanover County Schools will launch location on Sept. 13 at 10 a.m. with a ribbon cutting and open house.
The SparkLab offers a course called the High Tech Accelerator. Students will be able to complete hands-on learning experiences on a variety of topics, including artificial intelligence, software and app development, esports, ux/ui design and cybersecurity.
Through SparkNC, every learner has access to an inter-district network of teachers and tech industry partners to guide and shape their learning. To earn credit, learners will choose and complete eight out of 52+ high-tech units, creating a stackable learning experience and ultimately putting it all together with a final capstone project.
SparkLabs can be found in 16 of the North Carolina school districts participating in The Innovation Project, which aims aide learning opportunities for students who have been disproportionately impacted by Covid-19 and those who have been historically underrepresented in high-tech careers. SparkLabs offer independent learning in a low-risk environment catered to their interests.
