The N.C. Department of Transportation has closed N.C. Highway 211 from Little Macedonia to Camp Branch as of 2 p.m. Saturday. It’s due to the wildfire that started in Green Swamp Preserve.
It is expected to be closed until Tuesday.
Barricades are in place with law enforcement on hand. Motorists should be prepared for delays and proceed with caution.
The wildfire started from a controlled burn that took place Tuesday, June 12, to be limited to 400 acres in the Green Swamp Nature Preserve. By Thursday it had grown to 2,000 and then 11,500 acres by Friday night.
Firefighting crews worked toward pushing the south side of the fire to the 211’s edge, while the northern edge abuts Driving Creek Fire scar. The strategy helps crews better contain the fire which is currently at 0%.
The Green Swamp Nature Preserve is closed until further notice.
