Phase one of the Clear Run drainage construction is the largest stormwater project the city has undertaken to reduce flooding, improve water quality and enhance natural habitat.

For crews to do the work, Mallard Street between Clear Run Drive and Rill Road will be closed until approximately July 12.

City council approved the $7.7-million contract with Wilmington-based East Coast Contracting Inc. in April 2022.

Flooding along New Centre Drive will be reduced following completion, and phase two will start in about a year to address issues even further.
