
WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Police Department has made an arrest in a case that left a female abandoned in a roadway with severe injuries on April 23.
Just after 7 p.m. that Sunday, a Wilmington police officer saw a female lying in the 2400 block of Carolina Beach Road and called to have her transported to Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment of severe injuries.
As detectives investigated the incident, they determined a 42-year-old Scotts Hill resident, John Eric Thompson, had been in a verbal altercation with the victim. He proceeded to push her from a moving vehicle.
A warrant was issued for his arrest and Thompson he turned himself into the New Hanover County courthouse on Thursday, April 27. He received a $50,000 secured bond and is charged with assault inflicting bodily injury and felony hit and run.
