The Agenda: NHCS board on districtwide book committee, Wawa on planning docket

Monday, April 3

Brunswick County Board of Commissioners will meet at 3 p.m. at 30 Government Center Dr. in Bolivia. It can be livestreamed here. Items on the agenda include:

  • Approving a $710,000 transfer to county capital reserve landfill closure project for future planned project
  • Amending scope and increasing costs for Ocean Isle Beach Wastewater Treatment Plant Centralization and Rehabilitation; read PCD coverage here.

Pender County Board of Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. at the Pender County Assembly Room, 805 S. Walker St. The meeting can be livestreamed here.  A few items on the agenda include:

The City of Wilmington will hold an agenda review meeting at 8:30 am, Wilmington City Hall, 102 North 3rd St. It can be streamed here.

The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. at in the assembly room of the NHC Courthouse, 24 N. Third St., room 301. The meeting can be livestreamed here. A few items on the agenda include:

  • Public hearings for two rezonings, including 11.5 acres on Castle Hayne Rd. from David Long of Castle Hayne Development Group representing James Stone and Ashton Avery from residential to general business for general retail and outdoor display; 2.7 acres at 7620 Market St. from Cindee Wolf representing Bayshore Estates from residential to neighborhood business
  • Consideration of a contract from Recycling and Solid Waste with Archaea Energy Operating to design, build and operate a landfill gas to renewable gas facility; read PCD’s coverage here

Pender County Board of Education will meet at 9 a.m. The meeting can be streamed here. Items in the agenda include:

  • TMS Dishwasher replacement
  • Wall mount HVAC replacement

Tuesday, April 4

Surf City Town Council will meet at 4:30 p.m. at the Surf City Municipal Complex, 214 W. Florence Way. It can be livestreamed here. The agenda includes: 

  • Resolution to set a public hearing for an annexation
  • Police department pay grade upgrade
  • Public hearing for Applewood Trace amendment to planned unit development, appeal

The City of Wilmington council will meet at 6 p.m. in council chambers at City Hall, Council Chambers, 102 North 3rd St. It can be livestreamed here. A few items on the agenda include:

  • A resolution to add Juneteenth as a paid city holiday; read PCD coverage here
  • Schedule a public hearing for annexation of 5029 Carolina Beach Road 
  • Ordinance designating the Giblem Lodge at 19 North 8th Street a local historic landmark; read PCD coverage here

The Wilmington Housing Authority board will meet at 4 p.m. at Rankin Place Terrace, 415 N 12th St. The public is welcome in person; an agenda was not posted by press.

Brunswick County Schools Board of Education will hold a special meeting at 9 a.m. at the administrative offices, 35 Referendum Dr. to conduct superintendent interviews. The board hosts its regular meeting at 6 p.m. in the Center of Applied Sciences and Technology (The COAST), 1109 Old Ocean Hwy, Bolivia. A few items on the agenda include:

  • Design build method of project delivery for data containment denters 2
  • Change order for Schneider HVAC contract
  • Waiving second reading on multiple items, including graduation requirements, children of military families and assignment to classes

The Belville Planning Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. at 63 River Road in Belville. Meetings can be streamed here. Items on the agenda will include:

  • Presentations on Blueprint Belville and Brunswick Long-Range Planner
  • Zoning ordinance work plan 

Wednesday April 5

New Hanover County Airport Authority will meet at 5 p.m. at ILM Executive Conference Room, 1740 Airport Blvd. The meeting is only accessible in person. Items on the agenda include a 10-year retail, food and beverage concession agreement with Faber and approving two  5-year leases, one extension for All American Aviation Services, located in Suite 110 and the other with Southern Sass Hair Studio for Suite 160 of the Flex Building. 

Town of Leland is holding a special meeting at town hall at 5 p.m. to discuss the 2023-2024 budget. The agenda is here and can be livestreamed here.

North Topsail Beach Board of Alderman will meet at 11 a.m. at town hall, 2008 Loggerhead Court. Meetings can be streamed here. A few items on the agenda include:

  • Public hearing on proposed text amendment to add definitions for Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS)
  • Budget amendment to receive $54,389.92 from FEMA for Hurricane Ian projects

The City of Wilmington Planning Commission will meet at 6 p.m. at council chambers, city hall, 102 North 3rd Street, 2nd floor. The meeting can be streamed here. A few items on the agenda include:

  • Rezoning 5029 Carolina Beach Rd. from conditional office and institutional to high-density multiple-dwelling residential 
  • Rezoning three properties on S. 17th St. and one on Wellington Ave. from office and institutional to community business for an incoming Wawa; read PCD coverage here.

Bald Head Island Village council will hold a special meeting at 10 a.m. in the Multipurpose Room of the Department of Public Safety Building, 273 Edward Teach Extension. It’s available to stream here. A few items on the agenda include:

  • Management and Personnel Services (MAPS) group, classification and pay plan presentation and discussion
  • Budget amendment to fund 10
  • Consideration of potential lobbyist agreements
