The Agenda: This week in local government, July 19-23

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — It may feel impossible to keep up with local issues while they’re still being worked out.

Getting involved early on in the policy-making process can help ensure the community’s input gets heard before it’s too late to chime in.

You may not even need to attend (in person or virtually) to make sure your perspective is taken into consideration. Oftentimes, sending an email to government officials to be considered as a public comment pertaining to a particular item can put your voice into the public record.


Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government meetings of interest around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, we’ll include that below the listed meeting, too.

Here’s what’s on this week’s agenda:

Monday, July 19

Wilmington City Council will convene for an agenda review meeting beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Tuesday, July 20

New Hanover County Board of Education will convene for a special meeting with only a closed session on the agenda beginning at 1 p.m.

New Hanover County Board of Education will reconvene its recessed regular meeting virtually beginning at 5:30 p.m.

New Hanover County Board of Elections will convene for a special meeting beginning at 12 p.m. to swear in new members.

Wilmington City Council will convene for a regular meeting beginning at 5:30 p.m. View the agenda.

Thursday, July 22

Cape Fear Public Transportation Authority will convene for a regular meeting beginning at 12:30 p.m.

Friday, July 23

Wilmington City Council and the Wilmington Planning Commission will convene for a joint meeting to discuss the proposed LDC beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Wilmington Convention Center.
