CAROLINA BEACH, N.C. — Firefighters responded to a blaze at Paradise Cove Condominiums in Carolina Beach, nearby the Snow’s Cut Bridge.

According to Carolina Beach Mayor LeAnn Pierce, 12 units were destroyed and the fire is ongoing as of 2:30 Friday.

“We are asking people to limit water usage,” Pierce said in a text. The cause of the fire is undetermined.

WECT reported that at least one person has been injured as a result of the incident.

Carolina Beach leaders held a press conference on the edge of the cordoned-off area Friday afternoon. Pierce expressed gratitude that the fire was contained to only one building.

According to the fire department, three individuals jumped out of their windows to escape the flames, and four total people were transported away from the scene by emergency services.

The State Bureau of Investigation is on the scene to assist with the investigation.

The Pleasure Island Disaster Relief Fund has launched a GoFundMe to help residents that have lost their homes and are displaced due to the fire.

The American Red Cross is also on the ground helping with displaced residents.

This story was updated after Carolina Beach officials said there were 12 units destroyed, rather than 24 as they estimated earlier in the day.
