WILMINGTON — As part of our countdown to 2021, Port City Daily is revisiting some of its biggest stories of 2020.
Coming in third is the evolving story surrounding the death of University of North Carolina at Wilmington professor Mike Adams.
Just one week before his retirement, as negotiated as a requirement of a $500,000 settlement with the university, Adams was found dead in his Porters Neck home.
The settlement was aimed to address growing university and community unrest relating to Adams’ continued employment at UNCW. The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office eventually ruled Adams’ death a suicide.
