WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH — If you’re planning on visiting Wrightsville Beach Saturday morning (or even driving across town), prepare for traffic slowdowns.

The 41st annual YMCA Wrightsville Beach Sprint Triathlon will take place Saturday morning, with traffic delays expected between 7:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

Bikers will travel from Wrightsville Beach down Airlie Road toward Oleander, down Greenville Loop and Pine Grove Road, then turn back on Oleander and head for the beach.

Oleander Drive will be reduced to one lane of traffic during the event. The intersection of Oleander Drive and Greenville Loop Road will be slow to traffic.

Capped due to coronavirus concerns, 400 athletes will participate in this year’s event; marathon organizers are utilized rolling starts to help reduce crowds at the starting line. Spectators are strongly discouraged from gathering to watch the athletes compete.
