The vehicle was traveling at 96 mph in a 25 mph zone, according to the report. Police believe Je’mel Sneed, 31, was the driver of the vehicle, but acknowledge both occupants were found with seat belts unbuckled and in different positions in the car.
The vehicle floated an estimated 800 feet south from where it launched.
After an hours-long search Friday afternoon, officials pulled the car from the river before 5 p.m. using a crane. Frederick Brock, 40, the believed passenger in the vehicle, and Sneed were both found deceased.
A witness told a WPD officer they observed the vehicle launch into the river and saw its internal light come on while it was still floating. The witness said they heard a male voice screaming for help and saw one person inside the vehicle kicking and hitting the driver’s side window. This witness only saw one person, according to the cash report.
WPD is awaiting the results of a toxicology report.
