SURF CITY — Surf City detectives charged Brandon Gil, 27, with 12 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor this week.

Gil was found to be in possession of child pornography, increasingly referred to as ‘child sexual abuse imagery’ by law enforcement agencies to both remove any association with legal, consenting adult pornography and to drive home the reality that every image or video of child pornography is also evidence of a crime scene where child sexual abuse took place.

“Detectives with the Surf City Police Department received information advising that Brandon Gil was in possession of child pornography,” Surf City Police Chief Ron Shanahan said in Wednesday night press release. “After a 3-month long investigation into the information provided, Brandon Gil was charged with 12 counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and 12 counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.”

Gil received a $400,000 secured bond and is now in the custody of the Pender County Jail in Burgaw.

County records also show Gil was arrested on April 28 for a breaking and entering and larceny felonies.
