Wilmington police make arrest in Carolina Beach Road shooting death of 15-year-old

WILMINGTON — Wilmington police have arrested 21-year-old Trequan Crews for the Thursday shooting on Carolina Beach Road that left one dead and one badly wounded.

According to WPD, ” both vehicles were traveling northbound on Carolina Beach Road when they slowed down at the Matteo Dr. stoplight and the suspect vehicle opened fire. The victim vehicle fled as the shooting continued — bullets striking two other cars at the stoplight and an apartment complex nearby. No one in those cars or apartments were injured during the shooting.”

The shooting took the life of an unnamed 15-year-old male and badly injured 24-year-old Tyshaun Delts on Thursday, July 9. The third occupant of the victim vehicle, 25-year-old Daquan Daniels, was not injured, according to WPD.

Crews is facing numerous charges and is being held without bond:

  • First Degree Murder
  • Assault with a Deadly Weapon Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury (ADWIKISI)
  • Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling/Vehicle
  • Possession of Firearm by Felon
  • Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia
  • Misdemeanor Carrying Concealed Weapon – Gun
  • Resist/Delay/Obstruct Public Officers
  • No Operators License
  • Misdemeanor Hit and Run

WPD did not indicate that any passengers of the victim’s vehicle had returned fire or that other charges were filed in relation to the incident.

Members of a joint WPD-NHCSO task force arrested Crews on Thursday evening around 10:25 p.m. on the 2900 block of Clayton Place in Creekwood.
