Update: Wilmington police make arrest after victim shot by girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend

Update 3:30 p.m. — According to the Wilmington Police Department, “29-year-old Rodney O’Brien Wilson turned himself in at 12:42 p.m. He is charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury (AWDWIKIS). Bond information is not yet available.”

WILMINGTON — According to the Wilmington Police Department, a man was shot on Friday evening after an argument with his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend turned violence.

“Just before 10 p.m. Friday, July 3, officers responded to the 800 block of Hanover St. in reference to a male subject wh o had been shot,” according to WPD.

“The victim stated his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend approached him about dating his girl. The encounter turned into a “tussle,” which ended with the ex-boyfriend shooting the victim, causing non-life threatening injuries,” according to WPD.

Police have a suspect and a warrant for his arrest. WPD did not identify the man charged with the shooting, and said there is no further information being released at this time.
