Update: Body found in shallow water at Carolina Beach identified as Wake Forest man

UPDATE (9:49 a.m.) — The deceased individual has been identified as Kenric Joseph Jermaine Brown, 23, of Wake Forest.

CAROLINA BEACH — A man was found unconscious in the shallow water of the beach strand at Carolina Beach early Saturday morning.

“When emergency responders arrived on scene to render aid, no signs of life were present,” according to a release from the Carolina Beach Police Department.

CBPD officers along with Carolina Beach Fire Department and New Hanover County EMS were dispatched to the beach strand “in reference  to a male subject not conscious or breathing in the area of Scallop Lane, in the shallow water,” according to the release.

The area where he was found is roughly 1,000 feet north of the Carolina Beach Boardwalk.

An autopsy to determine the cause of death is scheduled at the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office.

The man has been identified and police are currently working to notify his next of kin, according to the department. More information will be become available after this occurs.
