Wilmington Easter egg hunt interrupted by afternoon shooting, leaving one seriously injured

WILMINGTON — Witnesses say that while children were hunting for Easter eggs in the Houston Moore housing community a drive by shooting sent a woman to the hospital with serious injuries.

According to the Wilmington Police Department (WPD), a Shotspotter alert activated at 2:35 p.m. at 1602 Kennedy Plaza, in the Houston Moore housing complex.

“Witnesses say they were having an Easter Egg Hunt for kids when the suspect rode by in an unknown vehicle, fired a shot hitting the 29-year-old victim,” according to WPD.

The victim was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center by ambulance with serious injuries. WPD does not have a suspect or vehicle description at this time.
