WILMINGTON — The Cape Fear Memorial Bridge will see additional lane closures after the North Carolina Department of Transportation was unable to complete inspections on the bridge due to bad weather.

The inspections were supposed to be completed this week, but rain and then strong winds prevented NCDOT staff from proceeding with them.

Lane closures can be expected from 9 a.m. — 4 p.m. weekdays until Feb. 21, according to NCDOT spokeswoman Lauren Haviland. That date is the goal but further bad weather could add to the delay.

Inspections were initially scheduled to wrap up last Friday but were delayed due to weather until Wednesday. This marks the second bad weather inspection delay.

“We want to make sure everyone is safe and appreciate everyone’s understanding and patience,” Haviland said.
