WILMINGTON — Authorities responded to a shooting near downtown today; it’s the third in less than a week, although it remains unclear if the incidents are related.

According to the Wilmington Police Department (WPD), officers responded to a shooting on the 600 block of Red Cross Street shortly after noon on Tuesday. Officers found a 19-year-old male victim with a gunshot wound; the man was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center and is currently in serious but stable condition.

WPD did not say whether they believed the incident to be gang-related, or if it was related to a shooting on Friday, November 22 that left three with gunshot wounds and a WPD officer with minor injuries after a crowd rushed police who were trying to administer aid to one of the wounded. There was also evidence of a shooting on Sunday, although authorities could not locate any witnesses or victims.

The shootings are still under investigation, according to WPD.
