
WILMINGTON — The U.S. Marshals Task Force arrested Genowell Caquam McKoy for this week’s downtown shooting that left one man wounded.
McKoy, 41, is charged with ‘assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury,’ ‘possession of a firearm by a felon,’ and ‘discharging a firearm in city limits.’
The shooting took place on Monday, October 28, around 7:40 a.m. near the Wilmington Convention Center. Wilmington Police Department officers responded to a shooting on the 900 block of Nutt Street and found a “middle-aged male suffering from a gunshot wound.” The shooting was reportedly the result of a verbal altercation; the victim was transported to the New Hanover Regional Medical Center and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
McKoy has criminal history including numerous felony drug possession and dealing as well as felony breaking and entering convictions, along with multiple misdemeanors.
McKoy is currently being held at the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office detention center on a $20,000 secured bond.
